To our Port KY Forum Members:
Starting with this issue, we have a new look. Let us know if you have
any display issues so that we can make it better for the future. We've
kept it simple to maximize the capatibility with your mobile devices.
With the nights getting longer, you may find yourself operating more at
night than you did in the summertime. I've found weather radar to be an
especially useful tool after dark, as it helps you readily identify both
the shoreline and oncoming traffic such as towboat configurations that
are otherwise hard to spot.
Capt. Joe Frith recently installed weather radar on the "After Math," his
Marinette Aft Cabin. Be sure to check out the forum for more some good
pictures and details on the installation:
22' Boat Project
How's this for a winter project: Warren Leggett and his son plan to build
a 22' center console fishing boat in Pewee Valley this winter. Warren is
experienced in woodworking, and is using a set of jigs and plans from CB
Boatworks of Wilmington, North Carolina. Be sure to visit the forum for
details and progress:
Also on the forum, "Ms. Mymoney" points out
that he found RV antifreeze at Meijer's Springhurst location for $2.99/gal.
That's a decent price. Be sure to check out the forum for several other
discussions relating to winterizing.
If you've winterized and need something to do, I'd like
to point out that some of the Bennett videos on boat handling, navigation,
sailing and common errors available on Netflix via streaming.
watched "Heavy Weather
Boat Handling," which was interesting. These films are dated,
but if you're already a Netflix member you may enjoy them.
Thanks to forum member Glen Roederer for pointing out that Google updated
their satellite imagery for this area on July 1st of this year. Interestingly,
when I looked at the images I found my car at the marina and my boat gone.
When I went north of Madison in search of it, I found myself in a muddy
water winter time warp.
As you make plans for the winter, mark off your calendar for the following
events in 2011:
Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow
January 26-30, 2011
National Houseboat Expo
March 11-13, 2011
Remember Capt. Lee Scheele? He sends his regards from Thailand, where
he is now selling mega-yachts. Check out the forum for some pictures of
some of his newest toys.
Once again, I'd like to thank those who helped support
the finances of this site in 2010. I'm going to grandfather all of our
2010 sponsors into 2011. If you find the information on this site useful,
please consider supporting it yourself. "Gold Sponsors" are
boaters who have contributed $20 or more to the site, and a business
sponsorship starts at $50. You can write to us at the address below or
e-mail us using the link provided at the bottom. More information:
That's it for now! Let me know if you have anything for the next edition.
