As I type this, we're only 100 days from this year's Thunder Over Louisville. With the holidays behind us, it's fun to start planning for the spring boating season.

Things are a little slow on the river this time of year, but the die-hards are still enjoying some decent weather. Here's are some things on the horizon:

Super Bowl Invitation from HCBOA


Sunday, February 3rd - 5:30 til close

COME ONE COME ALL - Bring your friends - Come watch the Super Bowl at Captains Quarters.

We are taking over Captains Quarters to provide the best Super Bowl event ever in Louisville's history! We call it the "Super Bowl EXTRAVAGANZA"

In the lodge area we are having 10+ TVs with a SOUND system so you can hear everything, Heavy hor d'oeurves, first come seating, cash bar happy hour prices, door prizes, raffles, squares, to many events to list!!! $12 at the Door event charge ($10 for HCBOA members).

The bar area is open to all (free) with 12 flat Screens, first-come seating and cash bar. The outside bar has been heated and mostly enclosed and will be heated for a "Smokers SuperBowl Party" area to watch the game on 6+ HDTVs.

Dress Code: anything you want, but we suggest your favorite team attire from High School, College or Pros. Just show your team spirit, whoever it is! Prize for best dressed. Our Super Bowl Party @ CQ's is going to be a blast! It's FANtastic.

The event is produced by HCBOA (Harrods Creek Boats Owners Association a IRS 501-c(7) Non-Profit ) Flat Screen HDTVs provided by Bonneycastle TV and Appliance (thanks to Larry Link) for the game.

5:00pm Lodge doors Open

6:00pm Telecast starts 6:30pm Kick Off Half Time: Beyonce

OUPV and Master Class in March

Louisville Sail and Power Squadron Courses

Mark your calendars! The Louisville Sail and Power Squadron is hosting the following upcoming classes:

America's Boating Course

A fun, in-depth boating safety course. The United States Power Squadron's ABC course meets Kentucky and Indiana boating license requirements. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts for boaters who complete this course.

Where: Harrods Creek Fire Department 8905 US Hwy 42 in Prospect.
Details: Price includes 244 page textbook, student CD, digital charting DVD including all US charts, and a 6 month USPS membership in the United States Power Squadron.
Price: $50. Families may share materials

Winter, Mondays in February 4, 11, 18, 25. 7-9 PM
Spring, two Saturdays in March 9 & 16. 9 AM- 1 PM

Advanced Piloting

(Classes are already underway)

Engine Maintenance

Course covers the operating principles and beginning care and maintenance of inboards, outboards and diesels. Course will help you to "Know Your Boat".

Covers basic deck seamanship, marlinspike, anchoring, rafting, basic boat care and maintenance, and nautical and USPS etiquette.

Boat Show

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow, which will be held January 23rd-27th at the Kentucky Expo Center.

New this year will be Paddlesport demos by Canoe of Kentucky, and you can meet Ron & Amy Shirley of "Lizard Lick Towing." Other famous people on hand will include R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere, stars of the History Channel's "Swamp People." link
